Work: 248.693.0321 EXT: 8370
I can be reached during my conference period or after school until 3:10.
A great way to reach me is through email. I respond to parent emails as soon as possible.
Materials:
• Textbook : Students will not be assigned a textbook as we will be using a variety of books in class. If needed, students may check out a book to use at home.
• Folder/binder: Will include notes and materials for the current unit. Folder/binder is staying in class unless; it needs to be taken home to complete an assignment or study for a test. At the end of the unit, assignments will be sent home to be reviewed by an adult for extra credit.
• Pencil pouch: containing necessary materials such as pencils, pens, eraser, colored pencils.
Student Planners
Students are required to write homework and upcoming quizzes and tests in their student planner for each class. Parents are asked to check planners daily to make sure the planner is completed and used as a positive, organizational tool to aide in school success.
C.A.R.E. the Oakview Way!
(Character, Attitude, Responsibility, Effort)
Specific reminders for my social studies class include:
1) Respect one another’s space.
2) Speak kindly to one another (and to yourself!)
3) Respond to all work done in this class in a positive manner.
4) Always try your best. Always ask questions when things are unclear.
5) Use anything in the room to help you complete assignments. Remember to return anything you borrowed in good condition.
6) Speak to Mrs. Owens about situations that cannot be resolved between you and a classmate before the situation gets “out of control”.
7) This year “Be the BEST you can BE!!”
Disciplinary Action for breaking school rules as defined in the OMS student handbook:
Consequences include disciplinary STEPS according to the school-wide STEP program. Each STEP includes a “Think Sheet”. After two warnings, the third warning will result in a “Think Sheet” to be filled out by the student explaining his or her behavior along with their ideas for improvement. This “Think Sheet” is to be taken home, signed by a parent and returned the next day. I will call home if the sheet is not signed and returned. In addition, I, or another teaching member on the team, will contact parents by phone if a child receives three STEP-1 infractions. This may result in an additional consequence such as a behavior plan or detention, along with a parent meeting.
Students may occasionally be required to participate in a “working lunch” in my room if they are consistently missing work due to absences or incomplete homework. An additional consequence may require staying for an after school detention to make up work. These are not punishments, but rather my effort to help students maintain successful grades.
Absent Work
Absent students are responsible to make up work according to school policy (See OMS student handbook). Students may set up a time during lunch for further explanation of missing assignments if needed. All tests must be made up within one school week.
If a child is absent more than one day, please contact the STAR teacher. If a child is feeling well enough we can make arrangements for parents to pick up missing work from the office at the end of the school day. If a child is not well enough to work on homework, please still contact us for a health update. We worry about our kids when they are absent, especially for more than a day. J
Required Materials:
Pencils
Colored pencils
pocket folder
3 Ring Binder/Organizational tool:
Students are required to have a three ring binder with a front pocket, loose leaf paper and dividers. This is to be used ONLY for Social Studies. Students will use this to store daily work, takes notes, and store graded assignments. If you have an organizational tool such as an accordion file that you find better suits your organizational needs, that is great, just make sure it is devoted to Social Studies.
