Standards Based Grading
Standards Based Grading: Standards Based Grading is based on the premise that students are "graded" or assessed on the specific standards being covered within a unit of study. Therefore, Powerschool will look very different than what you are probably used to seeing. In this class, the grade book will never have "assignments" listed; it will have "standards" listed and explained. Students will be assessed on standards through various mediums. I will be using: Michigan 7th Grade Social Studies Standards, Reading/Writing Literacy Common Core Standards, as well as Character and Behavior Growth targets to best teach and assess students. Explanation of grading: Students are given a pre-assessment at the beginning of each unit. There will be 1-2 focus standards on the assessment. After the unit, students will take a post assessment, and the growth will be documented for each standard on the assessment. Students have an opportunity to achieve mastery of a standard via the ability to "retake" until mastery is achieved. Grading will be reported in Powerschool using a number scale described in detail below. Homework/Classwork is NOT included in the final grade it is meant for practice to help the student achieve mastery of the standard being assessed. In Powerschool you will see a "check-mark" indicating the assignment was attempted and a "zero"if it was not(this is not included in final grade). This allows student/parent to monitor work completion(practice). 7th Grade Social Studies Content Standards: (Students will be assessed on the "big ideas" below) Historical Inquiry and Analysis How do historians know and create accounts about the past?
